ESF WorkNet Program
ESF WorkNet programme was delivered at Adelphi Centre. A group of 9 NEET young people completed an intensive programme which spread over to 5 days, including induction session.
This programme was solely delivered to Minority Ethnic young people. The highlights of the programmes were meeting Role Models from the community which young people were quick to relate. During lunch time Role Models spent an hour each day with young people and shared their career journey. Some of them faced many barriers through their journey, their dedication and hard work played a pivotal role in achieving their goals to become successful professionals.
The Successful professionals came from various fields such as Entrepreneur, Youth Workers, Acting, Media, Driving Instructor, Directors, Managers, Information Officer, Community Worker, Equality Manager, Lawyer, Training Officer, Community Safety, Police Officer, Councillors, Education officer etc.
Everyone had an interesting story to share and young people widened their horizons by asking questions and linking their journey with the concepts they were learning through the programme. It was an eye opener for many and they realised that you have to start a careers journey to reach to the dream job. All young people highlighted their dream job on the first day but they were not sure that how to achieve their goals.
Young people had an opportunity to meet Regional Manager Danny Logue to express their views on service provision and highlighted the key areas that worked well for them and some areas requiring improvements to meet their needs. All young people who completed the programme were awarded certificates by Danny Logue. Presentation ceremony was attended by the parents, Role Models and Careers Scotland Staff.
Danny said “I am very impressed with the idea of bringing Role Models during the lunch time and inviting parents to celebrate the success. The WorkNet Programme provides an innovative approach to eliminate barriers to employment and boost young people’s confidence and self esteem”.
